THRISSUR: Around 1,000 selected folk and professional theatre artistes in Kerala will be entitled to the Mediclaim Insurance Programme, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi chairman Soorya Krishnamoorthy has said. Each artiste will be entitled to one lakh worth insurance programme.He was speaking to reporters at Thrissur Press Club on Thursday. Krishnamoorthy said Cultural Minister A P Anil Kumar had agreed to the proposals put forward by him. The insurance programme will be implemented with the participation of private parties. These artistes should belong to BPL families. Kerala will be the first state in India, where insurance programme for theatre artistes will be implemented.These artistes will be provided with a bonus coupon of Rs 1,000 from next Onam. They can buy groceries from Supplyco outlets using the coupon. The subsidy of Rs 1 lakh will be given to nine selected dramas in each year. These dramas will be selected from drama festivals held in three zones in Kerala.The centre of the north zone will be Kozhikode. The central and south ones will be Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively.
