Patna: A major aviation mishap was averted at Patna Airport in Bihar when a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight had an aborted take-off on Friday evening. There were 174 passengers on board and all of them are safe.

Initial reports suggested that a tyre burst led to the incident. However, IndiGo, in a statement, denied there was a tyre burst, adding the flight 6E-415 (Patna-Delhi) was "involved in a low speed reject due to suspected engine stall".

"As smoke was observed in cabin by the Cabin crew. Capt elected to evacuate due to precautionary reasons. All SOPs were carried out efficiently. Evacuation was completed in 60 seconds. There was no tyre burst or engine fire. Matter has been reported to DGCA proactively."

IndiGo informed that an internal enquiry has also been initiated. There was no technical snag reported when aircraft arrived at Patna. At IndiGo, safety of the passengers, crew and the aircraft is the top priority and at no time it can be compromised, the statement further read.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, Union minister Ram Kripal Yadav and some other dignitaries are stuck at the airport.

They have to participate in midnight session of the Parliament which marks the launch of the Goods and Services Tax.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad Yadav is stuck at Ranchi Airport. Ranchi ATC was alerted just after Patna airport incident. Lalu was about to board IndiGo flight for Patna.
