THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Demanding an early solution to Mullaperiyar crisis, the Mahila Association will organise Jeevan Rakshasangamam at Vandiperiyar in Idukki on Wednesday. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan will inaugurate the sangamam.Mahila Association state secretary K K Shailaja said that the Union and State Government must immediately act on the issue which is posing threat to the life of 30 lakh people in the state."The only solution, according to experts, is the construction of a new dam. The Union Government must negotiate with the Tamil Nadu government and make them aware of the seriousness of the situation. The Jeevan Rakshasangamam is organised demanding a solution for the issue,’’ she said.Kerala Mahila Sangham will express solidarity with E S Bijimol MLA who is staging a fast demanding a new dam at Mullaperiyar. Mahila Sangham activists will join the hunger strike at Chappath in Idukki on Wednesday.Mahila Sangham general secretary Kamala Sadanadan exhorted its members to join the mass hunger strike.The Residents Apex Council of Kerala demanded Union Government to find a solution to the Mullaperiyar issue.State president Hashim Parakkadan and general secretary Paraniyam Devakumar demanded the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to allay the fears of Tamil Nadu on the issue.
