THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 25 persons, including a nine- month-old baby, were injured when a locomotive hit the Kanyakumari-Bangalore Island Express at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred when the electric locomotive, which was being attached to the train, came at a faster-than-normal pace. Omana of Kannur was admitted to the Medical College Hospital and her grandson Akash was admitted to the SAT Hospital. Others were given first aid at the General Hospital. The incident occurred around 12.45 pm. Coming at a fast pace, the locomotive hit the train with a jerk. According to the Railway Police, passengers who were about to board the train panicked and some fell down and were injured. The Island Express runs with a diesel engine from Kanyakumari to Thiruvananthapuram. An electric locomotive is attached to the train at the Thiruvananthapuram Central station. The Railway has said that it would conduct an inquiry into the incident.
