THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy challenged the Opposition to prove their allegations and requested the Speaker to play the video recordings of the incident in the presence of members of the ruling and Opposition parties to know the truth. ‘’The Opposition members disrupted the House purposefully and caused all the unruly scenes without any reason. The issue of police firing was already discussed on more than one occasion. The Opposition allegation that my office had leaked the DGP report to the media is baseless. I am an eyewitness to the whole incident that took place inside the House. Let the truth come out in the public. What happened in the Assembly was highly unfortunate and a shame on everyone which should have been avoided,” he said.IUML leader and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said he had seen the MLAs roughing up the woman watch and ward member. Kerala Congress leader and Finance Minister K M Mani termed as baseless the Opposition’s allegation that Lathika was attacked by the watch and ward members.CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan maintained that the watch and ward members attacked its leaders Rajesh and Lathika without any provocation when they tried to tell the Speaker from the well of the House that the Assembly should discuss the DGP report on police firing. Meanwhile, Rajesh said it was he who came under attack from the watch and ward staff. “Oommen Chandy government is using force by giving a free hand to the police both inside and outside the Assembly. I was slammed by a watch and ward staff,’’ said Rajesh. Lathika alleged that she was punched in the face and body by a watch and ward staff. ‘’We did nothing wrong, instead we were expressing our protest to the Speaker on the manner the government handled the Kozhikode police firing,’’ she said.
