New Delhi: Left parties would renew their pressure on the ruling coalition to stop forward trading in food grains and prevent the dilution of the Essential Commodities Act to control the spiralling prices of essential commodities.
"We would raise the issue once again to pressurise the Government to implement its assurance to Parliament twice on the matter," Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) leaders Basudeb Acharia and Rupchand Pal said.
They observed that there were "strong indications" that prices of kerosene and LPG would be raised after the conclusion of the ongoing Monsoon Session.
"No action has been taken in regard to the assurance given on the floor of the House by Finance Minister P Chidambaram on two occasions," Acharia said.
He said the CPI-M had demanded checking the "dilutions" in the Essential Commodities Act and withdrawal of forward trading introduced by the erstwhile National Democratic Alliance government.
No action has been taken against hoarders and blackmarketeers, he added.
The CPI-M leader also demanded a discussion on the 11th Plan Approach Paper saying while there was no debate on the matter in Parliament, it was being discussed outside.
Demanding that the Tribal Bill to grant forest land rights should be tabled in Parliament in this session itself, he said the Government should accept the unanimous recommendations of the Joint Select Committee of Parliament.
These include the recommendation on the cut-off year, the quantum of land to be given and granting of land rights to the poor schedule caste people living in forests for three generations.
