When the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Annadurai, asked the State to instruct its children in Tamil medium in order to gain knowledge, the now eminent space scientist Mylswamy Annadurai asks the students to learn science subjects through Tamil.

On the occasion of 108th birthday celebrations of Padmabhushan Dr Rajah Sir M A Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad here on Sunday, the eminent space scientist was given away the ‘Dr Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar Birthday Commemoration Award’ of Rs 2 lakh for this year.

In his acceptance speech,he said: “I am standing on this stage because of Tamil. I did my schooling in Tamil. There is a misconception that only through English we can learn science. But it’s not true.

Everyone can learn any subject through their mother tongue. Gone are the days when a person who learned Tamil can only work as a Tamil teacher.”  “While we were working on Chandrayan project, I lead the team of some hundered scientists belonging to various languages. May be our communicative language is English.  But everyone in the team thought in our mother tongue. That’s the winning mantra for us. There is nothing wrong in learning whatever language you like, but when your thinking is in your mother tongue, the productivity will be more effective,” he added.
