Noting that industrial waste is a major pollutant of rivers in the state, Union Minister K H Muniyappa on Wednesday said that the combine role of the people, NGOs and the government could be highly effective in environment conservation.
"The people and the NGOs have a big role in controlling pollution, and the government could assist them in this campaign," Muniyappa said at a seminar on Corporate Responsibility in Conservation of Natural Resources and Biodiversity.
Speakers at the seminar, the Union Minister of Sate for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises highlighted how industrial waste has been polluting rivers in Jharkhand. Mani Shankar, Chairman of Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, highlighted how industrial wastes have polluted rivers like Barakar, Damodar and Swarnarekha river and expressed hope that experts in the corporate world will find out ways to control pollution.
Speaking on the occasion, MP and former union minister Subodh Kant Sahay called upon industrialists and citizens, particularly the youth, to understand tribal culture,tradition and their festivals which are observed to protect nature and environment.
