Hoping to complement the recently-launched Radio Frequency Identification Device punching system at the Vyttila Mobility Hub, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) will set up five LCD projectors at the hub. The projectors will be set up at the hub within two weeks.
With the help of the projectors, passengers who arrive at the hub will be able to get hand on detail of every bus that touches the mobility hub including the time of arrival and departure.
“The system is expected to complement the RFID punching system. Once the conductor of the bus comes and punches at the system, every detail of the bus which is available in the card will be immediately displayed on the projectors all over the hub. This is the first step to make all activities in the hub digital,” said Regional Transport Officer T J Thomas.
He said the digital signage system was planned in lieu of announcements.
“Initially, the Hub society was planning on setting up announcements similar to that which takes place in airports. However, in a meeting with Vytilla Hub Society managing director M Beena, it was decided to set up projectors,” he said.
The `35-lakh projectors which will be in control of the Motor Vehicle Department is being funded by the State Bank of Travancore.
The RFID punching system was launched on Saturday hoping to reduce skipping of services by private bus operators at the hub. “We are confident that the punching system will reduce the friction between the KSRTC and the private bus operators too. Also, it will bring down the number of services being skipped at the hub,” Beena said.
The projectors will also continuously display awareness on road safety. Also, since the current issue is health, awareness on it will also be displayed on the board.
