CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has set aside the criminal proceedings in a land grab case registered against DMK treasurer MK Stalin, his son Udhayanidhi Stalin and three others. Justice T Mathivanan quashed the criminal proceedings, registered on the basis of a complaint from N Seshadri Kumar, while allowing a criminal original petition from P Venugopal Reddy, on March 27.Venugopal Reddy’s company - Pioneer Builders Limited - had purchased a property measuring 2.5 grounds together with the building measuring 4,433 sq ft on Chittranjan Road in Teynampet from the complainant Seshadri Kumar and a sale deed was executed in August 2010 for a valid consideration of `5,54,50,000.Utilising the sale consideration, Seshadri Kumar had purchased two properties at Bishop Gardens in Chennai. After a lapse of 15 months, Kumar lodged the present complaint alleging that Udhayanidhi Stalin had threatened him to sell the former’s property to the latter.Taking note of the fact that the complainant (Kumar) and the petitioner (Reddy) had settled their disputes amicably at the instance of their friends and well-wishers and the complainant had expressed his willingness in his counter to withdraw his complaint, the criminal proceedings pending before the Central Crime Branch was quashed, the judge said.
