New Delhi: India's Test skipper Anil Kumble on Friday came out in support of under-fire Rahul Dravid.
Taking a pot shot at Bangalore Royal Challengers owner Vijay Mallya, Kumble wrote in his column that "people who matter" should understand what sport is about.
"You need the people around you, the people who matter, to understand what sport is all about, to realise that no one goes out there to lose. What's unfortunate is that, invariably, everyone starts pointing fingers at the captain. So it stands all the more to reason that people within the camp then stand up and say 'we believe in you and your team'. I do understand that the IPL is different and there is a corporate look and feel to the whole concept. But at the end of the day, it is a match - one that a cricketer does not want to lose," Kumble wrote.
Dravid has been under pressure following his team's poor show in the ongoing Twenty20 tournament of the Indian Premier League.
Dravid-led Bangalore Royal Challengers are currently at the bottom of the points table having won just two out of the nine matches that they have played so far.
Mallya has already sacked the CEO of Royal Challengers, Charu Sharma, over the poor showing of the team.
Sharma even expressed his displeasure at being thrown out unceremoniously by Mallya.
Mallya, too, has said that he was not at all happy with his IPL team and blamed Dravid and Sharma for selecting 'old' players.
