KOCHI: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) would go ahead with the plan to erect towers at the Smart City site and the concerns raised by the Smart City authorities would be properly addressed, Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed said here on Sunday. The Minister told reporters here that the construction of towers was necessary to lay electric lines from the proposed 400-KV substation at Pallikkara.“We depend on other states to meet 59 percent of our power requirements. Hence the Board will have to envisage new projects here. Another factor is that if we do not erect the tower before September, the Government will have to pay Rs 9 crore as compensation amount to the Power Grid Corporation annually,” Aryadan said.He said that the Board had promised the Smart City authorities that the construction of the towers would not have any impact on the proposed Smart City project.“The Smart City project is of utmost importance to the State Government. We will hold discussions with the Smart City authorities and are hopeful of convincing them that erecting towers on the site  will not have any negative impact on the master plan of the project,” the Minister added. It was in 2008 that the KSEB handed over 100 acres of land which was part of the 206 acres of its Brahmapuram Diesel Power Project for the Smart City project. The Minister also visited the Smart City site where the towers are supposed to be erected.
