THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Gangster Ambalamukku Krishnakumar and his accomplice Saneesh surrendered before the CJM court here on Tuesday, in connection with the murder of another gangster and history-sheeter Shaji alias Kannadi Shaji in broad daylight earlier this month.The surrender comes at a time when the police had intensified the search for Krishnakumar, who operates a rival gang, and is the main accused in the case.Shaji, a resident of Sree Chithira Nagar, Kowdiar, was attacked by a four-member gang when he was travelling with his friend Ajith on the Pipeline Road, near Kowdiar Junction, around 8 am on November 2.The incident took place near his house when Shaji was going to buy milk.He was attacked by those waiting in a car. The police later seized the car used by the gang, which belonged to a rent-a-car shop at Veli, from where the vehicle was confiscated.Ajith, who fled after rushing Shaji to the hospital, later on his arrest told the police that Ambalamukku Krishnakumar and Sanish were among the assailants. Krishnakumar was once a close friend of Kannadi Shaji and they used to operate together. But following differences, Krishnakumar floated a new gang and ever since rivalry between the two gangs began.Earlier, the police had taken into custody two persons who had been providing help for the Sanish and Krishnakumar. The police were monitoring the mobile phones of the family and friends of the suspects. Police sources said that the surrender comes at a time when they were zeroing in on Krishnakumar and had got a clear lead about his hideout.
