This is an exceptional film in the history of Kannada cinema. A historical film 'Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna' is laudable for its rich effort and well controlled performance by character artists and chilling performance from challenging star of Kannada cinema Darshan. The power of this film is powerful dialogues for Darshan. He reminds his father Toogudeepa Srinivas when he delivers high pitch dialogues.
'Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna' is about 19th century freedom fighter who wages the guerilla war against British rule after mobilizing resources and people. It's worth watching because of the 'Oneness', it teaches to the younger generation of today. India has got independence long ago but the struggle of our leaders is what the gutsy producer Anand Appugol and his team focuses. This is a point to be noted by those enjoying the so called freedom in this country.
In the kingdom of Kittur Rani Channamma (Jaya Prada), Rayanna (Darshan) is known for power, respect and admiration to the place of living. He is like adopted son of Kittur Rani Channamma. When the tribute money is demanded by Thakceray period of British rule in India the strong opposition comes from Kittur Rani Channamma. When the rules are not followed by Kittur Rani Channamma a war is waged by the British Empire. It is a big defeat in the first war for British against Kittur dynasty. In the second war the British rule apply the foul methods utilizing the poverty of the people of Kittur, captures Rani Channamma and Rayanna handing over his precious sword to Channabasappa (Shashikumar) surrenders.
Rayanna is freed after five years and he uses brain to stop menace of British Empire. He turns guerilla warrior. Heads of Britishers rolls down for Rayanna fierce attack. At this time Kittur Rani Chamma in captivity is made to believe that Rayanna is dead. With major hit back in life Kittur Rani Chamma consumes poison.
Rayanna knowing the death of his mother goes further angry. All the efforts of Rayanna goes in vain when people deceive him. In the court hall, Rayanna shows his exemplary strength but British rulers sentence death TO Rayanna and his gang. Rayanna is hanged with a few others in the public place.
It is a fine treat for Darshan fans. Releasing on Kannada Rajyotsava Day, the film KVSR has powerful and punching dialogues for Darshan that focus on land and language of Karnataka. In over 10 places Darshan from his dialogues and stunning performance steals the show. The majority of the film is concentrated on him. He has done an admirable task with great effort.
Dr Jaya Prada is quite OK as Kittur Rani Channamma, the Umasri national award winning actress has performed brilliantly. Shashikumar, Srinivasamurthy, Saurav, Dharma, Shivakumar, Ramesh Bhat have very little chances. For Nikita Tukral it is just come and go in one song.
The technical aspects of this film are in great style and some of the shots captured by Ramesh Babu are superb. There is good editing, costumes, make up, art direction have given the feel of historical film. The music of Yashovardhan is a big letdown. V Harikrishna in the background score is passable.
Very rarely this type of historical films is made. Ananand Appugol for his huge investment deserves appreciation.
