Koyambedu market still inaccessible

CHENNAI: The last two days have been bad for vendors, retailers, wholesalers and customers at the Koyambedu market, thanks to the deplorable roads, worsened by heavy rains. Not only has the access road to the market been left completely unusable, buses from the private terminus and the CMRL construction have worsened the road condition in the area.As a result, people have begun using the link road on the Chinmaya Nagar side. However, this has led to chaos. Parts of the interiors of the market remained flooded.Commuters at CMBT had to wade through slush and grime to cross the road in front of the CMBT entrance, that resembled a lake. Low lying areas of Saligramam, Periyar Nagar, Elango Nagar and Virugambakkam were completely flooded. The ward counsellors in both areas were seen organising some manner of storm water clearance in the morning. G Jayanthi, Ward-125 counsellor, was seen directing traffic on Kaliamman Koil Street, as her aides attempted to drain stagnant water by opening out a sewage line, in the middle of the road.
