Kolkata: Nicco Park, the amusement park in Kolkata, has been shut down after 17 people were injured in an accident on Tuesday. The police have closed Nicco park indefinitely until the investigation is over.
Acting on a complaint by one of the injured, the police inspected the site where a water ride structure had collapsed and registered a case of negligence against the park management.
Bidhannagar police inspected the accident site on Wednesday morning even as the park management claimed that there was no slackness in maintenance of equipment.
Police say that the probe would include a thorough look into the crowd management system and the safety regulations followed by the park authorities.
Alleging maintenance neglect, a mob ransacked parts of amusement park. The park authorities admit there was overcrowding, but blamed the customers. They say safety warnings issued by park personnel were ignored.
Assistant VP, Nicco Park Rajesh Raisinghani said, "They had had actually pushed our officers aside and they did this. Though it was not intentional to damage our park, they violated our instructions which are there in every ride for their safety out of excitement."
