Hospital authorities have confirmed that 17 children have died in the last 48 hours.
Kolkata: Angry relatives ransacked the state-run BC Roy Children's Hospital for children and put up a road block in the Phoolbagan area of north Kolkata on Thursday morning after children admitted to the hospital died since Wednesday night.
Superintendent of the hospital Mrinal Chatterjee said, "Seventeen people have died in the last 48 hours. There is no negligence from hospital side."
Angry relatives alleged medical negligence on part of the hospital and complained about poor infrastructure. The State health department has ordered an inquiry into the deaths.
The road on which the hospital is located was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes due to the agitation.
