New Delhi: The Kerala High Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into the SNC Lavlin scam.
The case is related to a 1997 contract awarded to the Canadian firm Lavlin for modernising three hydroelectric projects in Kerala.
The deal was signed by the then power minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is currently state secretary of the CPI-M.
As part of the deal, Lavlin was supposed to pay Rs 1 crore for setting up a cancer hospital, but it paid only Rs 70 lakh.
The present CPI-M government headed by V S Achuthanandan had ordered a vigilance inquiry instead of a CBI probe.
The Chief Minister has said the government won't file an appeal.
This could aggravate the already tense relations between the party factions led by Achuthanandan and Vijayan.
