New Delhi: Two days before phase 2 of the odd and even private vehicle rationing scheme begins, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said 15 days are not enough to bring down pollution levels in the city. The Aam Aadmi Party government will implement the odd-even scheme for 15 days from April 15 and Kejriwal announced that he is planning to implement the scheme once every month.

"If we repeat this every month, it will help reduce pollution and also the congestion on streets," he said.

He also assured that the government is taking a lot of steps to bring down the pollution levels. "We are buying more buses and will increase the frequency of the existing buses in the city too. We have just started vacuum cleaning of roads. In some time we will extend it to the entire city. We will grow grass on all both sides of roads," he said.

Congratulating people on the success of the first phase of the scheme in January 2016, Kejriwal said petrol and diesel sales had fallen by 40% during those 15 days.

"Like in the first phase of the car rationing scheme in Delhi in January, CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles are exempt. Women, medical emergency, parents with school kids in uniform are also exempt. However, after the parents drop the kids, they will not be exempt," he said.
