Agriculture has always been a consistent contributor to the economy of India. Earlier, this occupation encompassed only farmers from villages, who had huge lands and were uneducated. Now, things have changed. From high-paying professionals to housewives, everyone has ventured into modern farming to try their luck. Pragya Hegde from Sirsi, Karnataka, has transformed her leisure time into a productive venture by crafting flower garlands, which not only became a hobby but also a source of income. At 36 years old, Pragya started this venture five years ago, initially using leftover pieces of cloth to make garlands. Today, her business has grown to employ 18 women who each earn Rs 25 per garland they tie.
Currently, Pragya sells around 2000 garlands each month. The wholesale price of these garlands is Rs 80 for 100 garlands, depending on the size. Her business has reached an international level, with regular customers in the United States, Singapore, Australia, and Canada, in addition to local markets in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

Another woman from Pune named Swati Kendre also does traditional farming; but now, adopted modern farming methods after opening a playhouse on her land to cultivate Gerbera flowers. As per reports, she is earning lakhs by selling those flowers in the market. She has 30 Guntha of land, approximately over 30,000 square feet.
Swati Kendre said that this crop is a good source of earnings because it is produced throughout the year. As per Swati, 300 bunches of Gerbera flowers are sent to the Gultekdi flower market in Pune every day. The couple sells their flowers for the price ranging from Rs 20 to 90 as per the demand in the market.
