BANGALORE: Novelist S L Bhyrappa regretted that ‘Divide and Rule’ policy is still prevalent in the country though the British left India long ago. He was speaking after releasing the Kannada version of ‘Voice of India’, a set of eight books published by Sahitya Sindhu Prakashana on Sunday.“The first Prime Minister of the country followed the same ‘Divide and Rule’ policy as he felt that it was easy to garner votes if the society was fragmented on the basis of caste. Today, his followers are continuing the same policy which actually leads to the development of negationism”.Taking exception to “the way in which the country’s history being recorded”, he said, “Our history has not been recorded based on our social, political, and economic scenario. The way in which various religions reacted to that scenario was also not touched upon by the historians.”Terming this as “a big disease”, Bhyrappa said that universities have made no efforts to throw light on such matters. Also speaking on the occasion, columnist and journalist Mujaffar Hussain said that there was a need to frame Common Civil Code.He also welcomed the statement of Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna that the Centre was having a second thoughts on continuing the Haj subsidy.Muslim Pratyekavada, Islam Akrantha, Bharatha Secularism, Digbandhanadalli Hindu Samaja, Hadis Chitrisuva Islam, Yaru Bharathiya Muslimaru?, Jihad and Madhyayugeena Bharathadalli Parishishta Varga-Jaatigala Vruddhi were the books released.The books were originally written by Sitaram Goyal, Ram Swaroop, K S Lal, Suhas Mujumdar in English and have been translated into Kannada by S Manjunath Bhat, Shankara Ajjampura, Sudarshan and S S Narendra Kumar.
