Justice Chandrachud is new Chief Justice of Allahabad HC
Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday. He was administered the oath of office by Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi at a ceremony held inside the High Court premises which was attended by a number of judges and senior advocates.

Born on November 11, 1959 to noted jurist and former Chief Justice of India YV Chandrachud, Justice Chandrachud completed his graduation from the esteemed St Stephens College in Delhi before obtaining his LLB from Delhi University in 1982. He, thereafter, left for Harvard University where he completed his LLM and, subsequently, obtained the varsity's "most advanced law degree" - Doctor of Judicial Sciences.

After completing his studies, Justice Chandrachud taught international law at the Oklahoma University for some time, but returned to India later and began practicing law. As a lawyer, he made a mark as a champion of the rights of bonded women workers, HIV positive workers, contract labour and religious and linguistic minorities. He served as an Additional Solicitor General of India during 1998-2000 before being appointed as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 29, 2000.
