HYDERABAD: The junior doctors have cancelled their proposed agitation for delay in payment of stipends following an assurance from Health minister DL Ravindra Reddy to pay it before the fifth of every month from April onwards. However, they will continue to boycott various duties including outpatient and wards till January 13, when an agreement will be signed between the government and junior doctors.
The representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors' Association held talks with the health minister and other senior officials here on Wednesday to resolve their demands for payment of stipend which has not been paid for the past four months. The junior doctors are on strike for the past one week and have boycotted duties including ward and outpatient services. Doctors at the Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam and Guntur Government Hospital have even boycotted emergency services, causing much inconvenience to patients.After the junior doctors threatened to go on a strike from Thursday and boycott all services including emergency services, the government invited them for talks. During the discussions, DL Ravindra Reddy promised to increase the stipend amount by 15 per cent from April as per an agreement reached with the junior doctors earlier. He said the government had already sanctioned about Rs89 crore for increasing the stipend.
