New Delhi: The box office will see multiple releases in varied genres this weekend with audiences getting options to choose from comedy film, 'Grand Masti', thriller 'John Day' and horror flick 'Horror Story'.
Thriller 'John Day' has been directed by Ahishor Solomon and stars Naseeruddin Shah and Randeep Hooda in major roles. The film has been produced by Anjum Rizvi who is hoping a good response for the film.
"I can't predict how the film will do. But it is of a different genre than the other two films releasing and the audience for this, is different. Let's hope for the best," Rizvi told IANS.
The film has been made at a budget of Rs 17 crore and is likely to be released on a total of 900 screens.
Randeep Hooda admits he has not played such a 'dark and black character' in his career so far.
"I have a dark character in the film. More than grey, it's black and it is something that I have never played before. But I enjoyed it a lot," Randeep said in an interview.
"I got to do the things that I can't do in real life. Thankfully, those things didn't have any repercussions in real life otherwise I would have been in jail," he added.
'John Day' also features newcomer Elena Kazan but Randeep is not worried about working with newcomers.
"I have also worked with Sunny Leone, she was also a newcomer. You get to work with so many new actors. I still remember when I was new in the industry. So I am not bothered working with newcomers," he said.
Elena Kazan says her co-star Randeep Hooda's acting spirit and energy boosted her to deliver her best in 'John Day'.
Elena plays a depressed Iranian girl, who takes to alcohol. "Randeep is very young, energetic and an intense actor...(his performance) forces you to step-up your own intensity to match in a scene, and I think we have created some interesting chemistry."
The Moscow-born Elena made her Bollywood debut with Saif Ali Khan's home production venture 'Agent Vinod'.
The film is likely to be challenge for Randeep Hooda as he will have to share the screen apace with a veteran like Naseeruddin Shah whose acting skills are unquestionable. The promos of the film give a hint that 'John Day' may turn out to be one of the surprising films of the year. (With inputs from IANS)
