CHENNAI: Promising Chennaiites a clean city and clean administration if they chose the AIADMK in the local body polls,  Chief Minister J Jayalaltihaa on Saturday assured that a honest, efficient, clean and transparent administration fully concentrating on the welfare of the people would be in place, while all requirements about basic amenities would be fulfilled on a war footing.Charging that during the DMK regime, they promised a Singara Chennai (beautiful Chennai) but, in reality, ruined the city to a great extent, the AIAMK supremo said if people elected an AIADMK Mayor, Chennai would be developed on par with international standards.“During the past five years, Chennai did not see any development for the people living here. But DMK councillors have become crorepatis. I promise you that the AIADMK councillors will not act against the welfare of the people,” Jayalalithaa said concluding her three-day campaign for local body elections and added that the people now had a good opportunity to vote out the local body leaders belonging to the DMK who had acted against the public.Recalling that during the previous AIADMK regime, the Veeranam scheme was implemented to end the drinking water scarcity of Chennai residents and works on setting up of a desalination plant commenced, she said that the compulsory rain water harvesting scheme had considerably increased the ground water table.Listing out the welfare schemes being implemented by her government during the past five months, the CM said Tamil Nadu was put on the growth trajectory due to the efforts of the AIADMK government. Jayalalithaa said before exercising their franchise, people should ponder over the atrocities of the DMK men during the 2006 elections to the local bodies. She said the Chennai Corporation was in the grip of DMK councillors whose primary duty was to extort money from the people. The AIADMK chief canvassed for votes for the party’s mayoral candidate Saidai Duraisamy and other councillor candidates beginning from Alandur. She spoke at KK Nagar, Korattur-Padi junction, Arumbakkam 100-foot Road, Ayanavaram, Otteri and Nungambakkam Pushpa Nagar.
