Chennai: For the seventh time, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has been elected as the general secretary of the AIADMK. More than 2,000 party workers filed nomination on Jaya's behalf.
While addressing the workers, Jaya said the party has become unbeatable. "We had a historic victory recently. We have now proved we are unbeatable. All the other parties are threatened by us and have run away. People of Tamil Nadu recognise AIADMK as the best party in the state," she said.
The party on Friday also announced candidates for the September 18 bye-elections to local bodies, including three Mayor posts even as DMK decided to boycott it citing paucity of time to select candidates.
Jaya announced Ganapathy P Rajkumar, E Bhuvaneswari and APR Anthony Gracy as Mayor candidates for Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi Coprorations. Former Mayors of Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, L Sasikala Pushpa and Vijila Sathyanand had been elected to Rajya Sabha early this year while former Coimbatore Mayor SM Velusamy had quit the post in May.
