Looks like the big budget, mega-star project and Zoya Akhtar's second directorial venture has fallen flat on its face on the very first day of its release. Despite having big Bollywood names like Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Katrina Kaif, the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara did not live up to the expectations of many.
Though the first-day, first-show was houseful, many members of the audience told IBNLive that they could not sit through the entire length of the movie that ran up to 2 hours and 26 minutes. While some said that the scenes that were shot in Spain were half-hearted, others complained that Hrithik Roshan's acting skills were hardly utilised in the movie.
Lalu Makhija, who is quite popular among regular movie buffs for catching every Bollywood film, first-day,first-show at Bandra's Gaiety Theatre points out, "The film is a tad too long. While they shot extensively in Spain, the director could have explored the essence of the country a bit more. As they shot at the beach with naked people on it, they were trying to remove those people away from the camera. But that should not have been the case. You have to show us the real Spain." Ask him if that would have landed the film in some trouble with the Censor Board, he quips, "If so had been the case, then you could say the Censor has no sense!"
Vijay Shah who also caught Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara at the same theatre said, "It is a very average movie. It is not really worth watching. It's a slow film. At best it can click with the college audience. Katrina had less screen time. In the middle, she just disappeared out of the blue. Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar were just about okay."
There were many senior citizens at the show. Robby Shah, who was one of them, pointed out, "I did not like the film at all. It seemed to be a copy of another film. A lot of people left during the interval itself."
A young banking professional, who did not wish to be named said, "Most of the people are saying they did not like the film. I don't think that people here can connect to the scenes shot in Spain."
Shilpa Kumar, who admitted that she had missed her lectures at college to come watch the film, says, "The long kiss between Hrithik Roshan and Katrina did not live up to the hype and could have been condensed. I dint not like the film at all."
