HYDERABAD: The sudden death of the niece of Union minister for petroleum S Jaipal Reddy on Saturday took a controversial turn on Sunday with the father of the deceased alleging that his son-in-law and his parents might be behind his daughter’s death. The police, who initially registered a case of suspicious death, have now altered the case to murder and are investigating from that angle.Dr Kiran Reddy (26), a dermatologist, was found dead in her room in her house at Nyaya Vihar in Bharani Layout on Road No 78, Jubilee Hills. Her mother, Bharathi, is the elder sister of Jaipal Reddy.Kiran Reddy was married to Chaitanya Reddy, also a doctor but is engaged in a business related to his profession. The couple were married five years ago and have a 4-year-old daughter.According to Jubilee Hills police inspector K Narsing Rao, Kiran Reddy attended a party hosted by her brother, Sunil Reddy, on Friday and came home late in the night. After reaching home, she called up her brother informing him that she had reached home safely. In the early hours of Saturday Kiran Reddy was found unconscious in her room and was admitted to a corporate hospital at Jubilee Hills where she was declared dead.Jubilee Hills police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) and shifted the body for postmortem to ascertain the reasons of death.Kiran Reddy’s father, Raghottam Reddy, approached the Jubilee Hills police on Sunday lodged a complaint that he suspected his son-in-law and his family members for the death of his daughter.“As the death was unnatural, Raghottam Reddy is suspecting the hand of Kiran Reddy’s husband and his parents behind the death,’’ Narsing Rao said. Raghottam Reddy reportedly alleged that his daughter’s body turned blue after her death and suspected foul play.Police said Kiran Reddy’s parents did not allege that their daughter was harassed by in-laws for dowry or other issues. Following Raghottam Reddy’s complaint, the case was altered to Section 302 (murder) and investigation launched.
