CHENNAI: The people in the hill districts of Tamil Nadu will be given free electric induction stoves instead of table fans as part of the government’s welfare schemes, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said here on Sunday.Jayalalithaa said representations were being made by people in the mountainous areas like Nilgiris and Kodaikanal that induction stoves would be useful for them rather than fans because of the cold weather in these places. “The government headed by me is functioning on the principle of (welfare) schemes for the benefit of the people. Hence, I have decided to give induction stove to the people in hilly terrains along with mixie and grinder,” she said in a statement.Fulfilling some major electoral promises, Jayalalithaa had on Thursday last launched a host of schemes, including the free distribution of table fans, mixers and wet grinders to households, laptops to students of government and government-aided educational institutions and cattle to the rural poor.
