KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday granted a week’s time to the Israeli couple, who violated the visa rule, to comply with the quit notice issued by the Ernakulam District Collector. Justice S Siri Jagan passed the order while considering a petition filed by the couple Shneor Zalman Bernstein and his wife Yaffa Shendi Keing against the deportation order. The court also said the petitioner can seek further legal remedies within a week’s time. The court had ordered the District Collector to hear the petitioner’s grievances and pass appropriate orders. State Attorney P Vijayaraghavan submitted that there was no need to cancel the order issued by the Collector and that their explanation was not satisfactory. The violation of visa norms is enough to deport the couple, he said. The couple was staying in a house taken on rent at Rose Street, Fort Kochi. They have been staying in the country since March 3, 2010. When their visas expired on March 3 last year, they went and returned on April 1, 2011, on a new visa. The petitioners sought 10 days’ time to take further steps. However, the court granted them one week.
