BANGALORE: “I was working in UK for the last 10 years. Initially when I left abroad, there was not much infrastructure facilities in the health care sector. Due to lack of facilities, we were not able to implement what we read. But, now the whole scenario in the Healthcare sector in India has changed drastically over the last decade which made me come back to my own land”, said Dr C P Raghuram, Pediatric Oncologist, HCG.Currently, it is the state of the art infrastructure facilities which is equal to those in developed countries that is bringing back the doctors in foreign land to work in their own country.“The country’s healthcare industry is improving and catching up with the west.  It gives me immense satisfaction to see the changes in the healthcare sector, as our people are accessible to many of the technologies, which did not exit a decade ago. The advancements in medical facilities has put India on the global map as a healthcare destination,” Raghuram added further.“In the last two months, over seven doctors have approached us from various countries like Australia, New Zealand and UK for jobs in cardiology and cardiac thorasic surgery department. But we do not have many vacancies in our hospital. We just had one vacant post of anesthesia for which an anesthesiologist from UK was appointed”, says Dr C N Manjunath, Director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and Research. It is not just for practising but specialists in various field look forward to work in India. Experience HubManjunath adds that majority of doctors want to come back for learning experience. Besides cardiology, the demand in radiology, nuclear medicine, oncology, anesthesiology, nephrology are much more.  “Now this reverse brain drain is due to the good hospitals and handsome remuneration which is attracting foreign trained doctors”, added Dr Sudershan Ballal, Medical director, Manipal Hospitals. In the last six weeks, Manipal hospitals has appointed three foreign trained doctors in its hospitals.But unfortunately baring few, all of them chose working in corporate hospitals and are not keen on joining medical college or healthcare institutions.“Everyone wants to join corporate hospitals in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and do not wish to work for rural areas”, he added further.
