Melbourne: An 18-year-old daughter of Indian doctors was killed in a mishap that took place after her plane collided mid-air in Sydney's west.
Chandrika Gaur, a trainee pilot, was reportedly depressed at she was not doing much of flying, according to owner of an airport cafe, Eddy Omeissah.
"I made her a coffee this morning and joked around about getting married and having kids. She was 18, very pure, nice girl, very well mannered, from a privileged background," Omeissah was quoted as saying in The Age.
He added, "Both of her parents were doctors in India. She was very quiet, subdued. But she had such a pretty face she'd get away with being quiet, you know. She didn't [say] she was going to fly or not [today] ...There's a lack of aeroplanes there for the number of students, so they never knew when they were going to fly or not," Omeissah said.
"She's been depressed recently because she hasn't been doing much flying," Omeissah, who had befriended the trainee pilot, said. "Now look how fate treats her," he added.
Shortly before Gaur and her instructor, Joanna Ethell, a newly-married mother of four in her early 20s, was flying the aircraft when it collided mid-air with another aircraft that was being flown by Ken Andrews, 89, a World War II Spitfire pilot, who was teaching a 25-year-old male trainee.
The collision was captured on the Australia's radar tracking system.
