The movement of leopards in the villages near the Nallamala forest area in Nandyal district (Andhra Pradesh) is causing fear and terror among people. In the recent past, leopards have been attacking people who are in a state of panic and unable to leave the village. On June 25, a leopard killed a woman who had gone into the forest to fetch firewood. In Pacharla village near Giddalur Ghat, a woman named Sheikh Mehrunisa, the former sarpanch of the village was seriously injured and then killed by a leopard. All the villagers, shocked by this, panicked and started protesting by sitting on the road and urging them to immediately catch the leopards to save their lives.
As they came out of the forest and entered the no man’s land, people were scared that the leopards would attack them and they had to bide their time. A woman who had recently gone for fieldwork was also attacked by a leopard and the woman survived after some bystanders shouted. Before the incident of the woman being killed is forgotten, a leopard is once again on the prowl in the Mahanandi field.
While roaming around the Mahanandi Kshetra area in Nandyala district, the CCTV camera recorded many animals roaming around the Goshala behind the Mahanandi Kshetra at night. The leopard has been roaming around Mahanandi Kshetra for the past two or three days and the devotees visiting the temple are also scared.
The forest officials, alerted by this, have prepared the ground to capture the leopards. The leopard that recently killed a woman has been caged and brought to Tirupati by the authorities under the name Operation Leopard. Similarly, people are appealing to the forest authorities to provide and take away the cheetahs roaming around Mahanandi.
