New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday sent Indian Mujahideen head Tehseen Akhtar to police custody till April 2. Akhtar was arrested on Tuesday from the Naxalbari area in Darjeeling. He is the alleged mastermind behind several terror attacks in India, including the recent Patna and Bodhgaya blasts in Bihar.

A Delhi Police official said he was also involved in the Hyderabad Dilsukh Nagar blasts in February 2013.

Officials say his arrest will deal a major blow to the terrorist organisation. "He handled all IM modules in India and was a key link between SIMI and IM operatives," SN Srivastava, Special CP, Delhi Police Special Cell, said.

The officials said that Akhtar was heading the Indian unit of Indian Mujahideen after its founder Yaseen Bhatkal was arrested in 2010.
