Hyderabad: In a bid to overcome losses, the APSRTC is planning to more number of air-conditioned buses to the Shamshabad airport and Hitec City. At present, the corporation is operating 20 AC buses to the airport and 40 to Hitec City from various points in the twin cities. The RTC , which is operating 80 AC buses in the twin cities, is incurring losses to the tune of Rs 1 crore a month on air-conditioned buses because of low occupancy ratio which is just 45 to 50 percent.
Greater Hyderabad zone executive director A Koteswara Rao said they urged airport officials to stop operating Aero Express services to the airport from different places in the twin cities and offered to operate RTC buses in place of Aero Express buses. They also offered special packages and monthly passes to airport employees. Airport officials gave positive response and the talks were continuing, he said.
If airport officials agreed to the RTC proposal, special training and uniform will be provided to the drivers and the bus colour will be changed. The corporation also held talks with some IT companies offering to transport their employees. Three companies came forward to utilise RTC services, he claimed. Monthly passes and packages will be offered to IT professionals.
