New Delhi: Wednesday brings a whole load of cheer to actor Hrithik Roshan as he turns 33.
Best-known for his performances in Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya and Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham, Hrithik recently graduated to being a superhero with his heroic moves in Krrish.
The actor was born in Mumbai, India, to Pinky and actor/director Rakesh Roshan and nephew of music composer Rajesh Roshan.
Born in 1974, Hrithik's first movie role was as a child artist in the 1980 movie Aasha, when he was six years old. In the movie, he appeared in a dance sequence as an extra.
It was only in 2000 that the actor took the country by storm when he starred in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai as the simple Rohit and the sauve Raj. The general verdict in the industry and the public was that the next superstar had arrived.
Directed by his father Rakesh Roshan, the film turned out to be the highest grossing film of 2000 and won many awards.
From the chocolate-boy image Hrithik deftly moved to intense roles in two critically-acclaimed films in the same year, Fiza and Mission Kashmir, playing the role of a rebel.
Hrithik was nominated for Best Actor in Fiza and Mission Kashmir was nominated for Best Film at Filmfare.
While in Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham he floored the audience playing the peace-maker son, in Koi Mil Gaya, he took on the role of a mentally-challenged boy.
2006 was a good year for the actor again as he moved on to being the first 'real' superhero in Krrish, the 2006-sequel to Koi Mil Gaya.
Though his 2004 release Lakshya did not fare well at the box office, critics dubbed Hrithik’s role in the movie as the confused-youngster-turned-Armyman as his most impressive performance.
Hrithik’s most recent release is Dhoom 2, a sequel to the 2004 hit Dhoom in which he plays a slick villain, donning the role of the con-artist Aryan.
His forthcoming films are Akbar-Jodha and Kismat Talkies which are scheduled to release this year.
