BANGALORE: bangalore International Centre will host at talk on Public Software and Public Institutions by Gurumurthy Kasinathan on Friday, September 23 at 6.30 pm at TERI complex.Currently our society has increasingly come to be known as a ‘digital society’ as the production, sharing, storing and consuming of information or knowledge is basically digital in nature. What should be nature of this digital infrastructure in terms of software and networks? What should be the role of the technology experts vis-a-vis community activities? These are the areas which need to be thought of with foresight and clarity and that is what Gurumurthy Kasinathan proposes to explore in his talk.Gurumurthy Kasinathan is founder and director of IT for Change, an NGO based in Bangalore. He works on program, research and advocacy aspects in the domains of education, public software and Internet governance at IT for Change. He has worked on the role of proactive disclosure on the Internet in the context of the Right to Information in India. He leads programs on the adoption and promotion of public and software in the Indian public sector.Gurumurthy is visiting faculty at the Tata Institute for Social Science. He is founder and secretary of the Centre for Leadership and Management in Public Services, an NGO formed to work on issues of individuals and institutional capacity building in government and non governmental organisations. He is also on the governing board of Hengasaru Hakkina Sangha an NGO working on legal rights for women.
