BANGALORE: The Jayachamarajendra (JC) Nagar Main Road has been closed due to the BBMP reconstructing the road as well as the BWSSB’s repair work. While the first half of the road remains closed, the second half has been opened. The reason being, the management of vehicles otherwise would have been a major issue. On the charts for the road is the laying of new sanitary pipes, desilting of drains, tarring as well as the clearing garbage. The road has not been repaired from the past forty years.Hence a new concrete road is also being built. The action was a result of the resident’s complaints about the road. The road is now filled with slabs of stone. There are overflowing drains everywhere, the stench of which is unbearable.Garbage which has to be cleared. The road is low lying road. If it rains, the residents would also have to deal with hassles of the drain water entering their houses. The shop owners are probably the worst affected by the decision. Nanjappa, who runs a HOPCOMS store in the area, said, “Despite the fact that it is a good move for the long run, we are facing a lot of difficulties now. As the road is blocked, the only customers I have now are the nearby residents.” Saniya, a student, said, “Walking through the area now is like taking a hiking trip. We need to jump, hop and skip in order to move. The work needs to completed as soon as possible.” The local corporator of the area is N Govindaraju said, “I do realise the urgency in which the work needs to be finished and I will ensure that it is done soon.” He also added that the work would take atleast a month and a half to finish. The plan would be to finish the BBMP work in the first fifteen days and the BWSSB’s in the next month.Upon contacting the BWSSB officer for the area, Pani Bhushan, he informed that the BWSSB work in the region would begin by the end of June.
