His body cut in two, Bengaluru man makes wish for organ donation
As he lay dying, the young man showed tremendous presence of mind and told doctors to harvest his organs.

Bengaluru: He was run over by a speeding truck, his body severed in two.

But as he lay dying 24-year old Harish Nanjappa made one last wish to those who came to help him -- harvest as many of his organs as possible so that it may help others live.

An employee with a private company, Harish was returning to Bengaluru from his native village in Tumakuru on Tuesday morning when his bike was knocked down by the truck on the state highway.

Passersby were initially too horrified to react, but soon the police and ambulance were called in. Harish was still conscious, but he realised he was dying. And as they carried him to the ambulance, he expressed the wish to donate his organs.

“Ambulances reached Harish in about 8 minutes after the accident was reported. He was alive when he was rushed to the nearest government hospital. A few minutes after reaching there, he passed away," DySP Rajendra Kumar was quoted by The Hindu as saying.

Doctors were astounded how a man, cut in two in the gruesome accident, could show such presence of mind.

Minutes before he breathed his last, his eyes, saved by the helmet he was wearing, were donated to the Narayana Netralaya. His other organs could not be harvested since they were badly damaged in the accident.
