THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government on Friday decided to give Onam bonus and other incentives to various employees. This was announced by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after a special Cabinet meeting held here.This included the hike in various pension schemes for fish workers from Rs 300 to Rs 400 from April. The arrears of the pension from January will also be paid before Onam.The arrears will be calculated as Rs 300 per month from January 1 to March 31 and Rs 400 from April 1 to August 31.A total of Rs 14.40 crore has been earmarked for the purpose. This meant an increase of Rs 11.40 crore from the Rs three crore earmarked in the budget, the Chief Minister said. The welfare pension of all labourers coming under the Labour Department will be increased from Rs 200 to 400. The arrears for the same will be distributed before Onam.Employees of the Perumbavoor Rayons and Comtrust, Kozhikode, will be given Rs 5,000 as advance during Onam season.The Cabinet also decided to hike the festival allowance of eight categories of part-time contingency workers from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200.The festival allowance for pre-primary teachers and ayahs has been fixed at Rs 500 and resource teachers of special schools at Rs 1,000.The government also announced the festival allowance for workers of various closed-down units. Workers  of closed-down public sector units and closed-down private sector units will get Rs 2,000, workers of plantations, Rs 1,000, those at coir manufacturing units, Rs 600 and workers of cashew  factories, Rs 600.An amount of Rs 2.35 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.The Cabinet also decided to give two acres of land to the SBI for establishing their regional offices. Chief Secretary has been entrusted with the task of identifying  the land for the purpose.It was also decided to provide five acres of land for establishing a Judicial Academy under the High Court at Nedumbasserry in Ernakulam district.
