Mumbai: Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) on Monday advised people not to venture into the sea as the city would witness high tides measuring about 4.70 meters till June 17.
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall, accompanied with thundershowers and strong winds, in the metropolis in the next couple of days.
"We appeal to the people not to venture into the sea in view of high tide of about 4.70 m till June 17," Municipal Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriay said.
According to the civic administration, there will be tides from June 13 to 17 measuring between 4.58 m to 4.73 m.
"Any tide over 4.5m is considered as high and if it is coupled with heavy rains then it will definitely be a matter of concern," Joint Municipal Commissioner SS Shinde said.
On July 26, 2005, the metropolis saw unprecedented floods as 944 mm of rainfall coincided with a 4.48m tide.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash the city. Water logging was reported from areas like Malad, Kandivali, Dahisar, Andheri and Goregaon, all in the suburbs.
Trains on Central and Western railways were running late by 15 minutes, officials said.
A minor landslide was reported from Malad, where people from two 'chawls' were evacuated, civic officials said. No casualty was reported.
