HYDERABAD: Traffic snarls, uprooted trees and electric poles and inundated roads marked the city following rains, which have been lashing the twin cities since Tuesday night. The rains not only threw life out of gear but also kept civic staff on their heels. Areas suchas Maithrivanam, SR Nagar, Begumpet, Humayunnagar, Mehdipatnam, Yousufguda and Ameerpet had streets full of swirling waters while overflowing sewerage was common at all places. Trees fell down at many places and fallen electric poles at areas like Pochamma temple near Secunderabad station and areas on city outskirts. “We received information from a few places about fallen trees blocking the way and complaints of inundation in various localities. Our staff are out on the roads checking and clearing carriageways,” said Narasaraju, an assistant engineer from the Disaster Management wing of the GHMC. Due to continuous rains and heavy gales, trees were uprooted in Madhuranagar, Saradhi Studios, Ameerpet, Humayunnagar, Banjara Hills, Bhoiguda, Saidabad, Domalguda, LB stadium, Masab Tank, Ramkoti, Tilaknagar and Goshamahal. According to the emergency cell of GHMC, they received complaints of water-logging from near the CM camp office, Maithrivanam, Endoments department, MJ Market junction and localities in Bhoiguda. Vehicles had to wade through knee-deep waters in Lakdi-ka-pul, LB Nagar, Dilshuknagar, Uppal and low-lying areas near Kukatpalli. Traffic movement also came to a standstill over the Begumpet-Greenlands stretch, Ameerpet, SR Nagar, Lakdi-ka-pul, LB Nagar stadium, Telugu Talli flyover, RTC crossroads and other major junctions.Narsa Raju said that GHMC workers removed tree blockades from areas such as Masab Tank, Ameerpet, Madhuranagar, and Banjara Hills and their staff are still working in clearing uprooted trees in other localities. The inundation at the CM camp office was cleared using a pump while a Maruti car parked near the LB stadium was damaged after an electric pole fell down on it. Power cuts also took place in many localities.
