HC to name the lab for ND Tiwari's DNA test

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will on Monday decide which laboratory will take and test DNA samples of veteran congress leader ND Tiwary in a paternity case.

Tiwari agreed to the test after Delhi resident Rohit Shekhar moved the court claiming to be his biological son. Tiwari has so far denied Shekhar's claims.

Justice Gita Mittal, after hearing his plea, allowed the transfer of laboratory from Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) to Centre for DNA, Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) as the former no longer conducts DNA test.

Allowing the test to be conducted at the Hyderabad-based CDFD, the Court directed its Joint Registrar to expedite collection of blood samples for the test.

Earlier on March 18, the Supreme Court dismissed ND Tiwari's petition challenging the Delhi High Court verdict on conducting a regular DNA test.

On March 14 Tiwari had said that he would consider taking the test by giving hair from the forehead or saliva, rather than a regular DNA test (blood sample).

The SC Bench had granted time till March 18 to ascertain, from forensic laboratories, whether such tests would be feasible.
