Bharoda: While several villages in Gujarat have Wi-Fi connectivity and CCTVs, Bharoda village in central Gujarat's Anand district has achieved a unique distinction. Non-resident Gujaratis can see live visuals of their native village on a mobile phone or computer through an application.
Almost every resident in this small village has a family member settled abroad. Ninety CCTVs are connected to a 4000 metre long fibre optic cable which ensures that the vast distance is reduced by a smart application. Anyone with a mobile phone or computer can login and will be instantly transported to the hi-tech village.
Ravi Patel, a resident, said, "If my villagers are staying abroad, they can see the village live. They can watch temple aartis and everything live."
Nehal Desai of Shyamal Solutions said, "All cameras are connected to the application. At a later stage we will charge a nominal amount for using the service and viewing the village."
With the help of technology, people settled abroad can watch events -- marriages, religious functions, others -- live.
The man behind this project is Mahendrasinh Raulji. He migrated to the US three decades ago. Settled in Florida, his yearning for his native village spurred the Rs 30 lakh project.
Dharmishtha Puwar, Mahendrasinh's Sister, said: "He did this so that he can watch his friends back home everyday."
With the village virtually connected to the world, Bharoda is planning to harness solar energy for street lighting. The high-tech village is setting a blueprint for other to follow.
