THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Agricultural Development Society (KADS) in association with public and private agencies would conduct Greenfest 2012, an Agro-Organic Fair, on Pulimoottil Ground, Thodupuzha, from April 20 to 25. The fair is being organised as part of the initiative to attract more youth into farming and other activities related to it. The traditional farming methods, which are alien to the present generation, would also be showcased. Antony Kandirikkal, president, KADS, said that a seed festival would also be conducted at the fair where the farmers can exchange the seeds with others. Farmers from anywhere in the country could exchange seeds at the venue. Greenfest 2012 will ensure a collection of wide variety of high yielding seeds. There would also be a session to create awareness for farmers about the financial benefits of production and sale of seeds. A jackfruit festival would be conducted to discuss the value of this precious fruit. Keralites have not realised the value of jackfruit or its tree which has been recognised even at the international-level. Around 50 varieties of jackfruit trees will be displayed at the fair. Palur-I tree, developed by Tamil Nadu University will be distributed through the fair. A Travancore food fest has also been organised. A variety of food items including Ambalapuzha palpayasam to Kuttanadan toddy shop curries will be available at the festival. Cooking experts, Pazhayidam Mohanan Namboothiri and Rajkalesh will also participate. Competitions in cooking would also be held as part of the fair.
