New Delhi: The Naxal menace has finally made the Government sit up and take sharp notice of the issue that threatens to engulf major parts of India.
Under active consideration of the Cabinet are also plans to curb the violence the Naxals.
The Government has given a go-ahead to the police to involve help of services like helicopters like Chetak and MI7 for supporting operations.
Cabinet has also approved the use of unarmed aerial vehicles for surveillance over Naxal areas, positioning of security forces to the marked zones for upto three years and incentive schemes for security officers posted in Naxal areas.
The incentives include a 25 per cent hike in basic pay and higher insurance coverage.
The Cabinet has also decided that when filling up the vacancies in the forces that fight Naxals, preference will be given to people who belong to the areas, allowing officers to retain quarters in main cities or the capital if posted in Naxal areas.
