New Delhi: The Supreme Court has hauled up the Central government and state pollution control boards on the progress of the Clean Ganga project. The apex court has slammed them for not taking action against polluting industries on the banks of the River Ganga.

The court told the pollution control boards, "Yours is a story of complete failure, frustration and disaster." The court has asked the National Green Tribunal to monitor and take action against all polluting industrial units on banks of the Ganga.

Earlier in September, after being rapped by the Supreme Court for its approach to clean the Ganga, the Modi government had placed before it a blueprint of short, medium and long term measures that spread over 18 years and thousands of crore of investment to restore the glory of the holy river.
