Ganesh Visarjan: Maharashtra Bids Adieu to Ganeshotsav
The 11-day long Ganeshotsav – worshiping Lord Ganesh - in Maharashtra ended on Thursday.

Mumbai: The 11-day long Ganeshotsav in Maharashtra ended on Thursday.

Thousands of Ganpati devotees, after performing the farewell 'Uttar Pooja', are now preparing to immerse Ganesh idols of all sizes at various stipulated points across Maharashtra.

Considering massive crowd, the Mumbai Police, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Navy, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has made elaborate arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents and to maintain law and order situation.

The Traffic control room of Mumbai Police said that certain restriction will be put on the main roads near all the major immersion points. They claimed that they will ensure minimum inconvenience is caused to motorists and pedestrians.

"Mumbai Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements to maintain the law and order and to regulate traffic and pedestrian traffic during Ganpati," claimed the police.

Traffic Police control rooms have been set up at five places, which are Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Chowpatty, Bada Masjid in Bandra, Juhu Chowpatty and Powai (Ganesh Ghat).

Watch towers have been put at various immersion points to keep a check on the huge crowd which will be visiting the different beaches of Mumbai.

According to police, many voluntary organizations such as civil defence, Anirudha's academy of disaster management, home guards ,traffic wardens, etc will participate with Traffic Police in controlling the Pedestrian /vehicular traffic and Ganpati processions.

Certain traffic restrictions will be put around the areas of procession informed the Mumbai Traffic Police.

Mumbai Police will also be using drones to keep a check on the roads and especially at the beaches, where the idols will be immersed. The feed of the feed will be directly connected to the control room of Mumbai Police.

Senior police officials said that the whole of Mumbai Police force (50,000) will be out during Ganpati celebration and action will be taken against anyone who will break law and order during the celebration.

The police also said that there are no specific terror attack alerts from any agency but the force and the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) will be on high alert. Recently Maharashtra ATS had arrested several people of the Parbhani module of ISIS from Maharashtra after a major crackdown.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) claimed that they have also deployed lifeguards at the immersion points to make sure no untoward incident takes place while Ganpati idol immersion.
