New Delhi: Films are normally the showcase window of popular culture. They feature the transitions happening in a society. Director Prateek Chakravorty’s romantic comedy ‘From Sydney with Love’ shows the difficulties and dilemmas faced by Indian student in Australia.

Sharad Malhotra is playing one of the pivotal characters in the film. He says, “I have done a show on Zee TV called ‘Banoo Main Teri Dulhann’ which I left after finishing 850 episodes. Afterwards, I did my diploma in acting from the New York Film Academy, shot for some big brands, then one of my designer friends put me on to the casting director of ‘From Sydney with Love,’ not for casting couch obviously. I practically auditioned for almost all the roles in the film except the girl’s.”

“I am playing Rohit Khurana, a Delhi boy, very positive, loves to live life, and he also believes in love at the first sight. When he meets the girl for the first time and of course falls in love with her,” adds Sharad.

Bidita Bag will be seen as the leading lady Megha in the film, “I am playing Megha Banerjee who hails from a small place in Kolkata. She gets scholarship to study Economics at the University of New South Wales; there she meets three boys, good boy, bad boy and fat boy. It’s not a superficial or light role. Megha comes from a conservative party and hasn’t visited many places, she takes a little time in adjusting to the surrounding in Sydney.”

She is not new to the film world, “I started modelling while I was in school only. I got my first film ‘Icche’ when I shifted to Mumbai, I did a couple of other Bengali films before being selected for ‘From Sydney with Love’, however my first Hindi film was ‘As the River Flows’. Mostly, I have worked with newcomers. This time we have shot at Shantiniketan and Sydney.”

Sharad is banking upon the family audiences, “When I watch a film as an audience, I want to be entertained otherwise I will walk out of the theater. Thus we decided to make a film meant for all classes. Nowadays, you have films with double meanings but our film is a real family comedy.”

‘From Sydney with Love’ is releasing along side Pooja Bhatt’s highly publicized ‘Jism 2’ on August 3.
