Protesters agitating against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project will on Saturday attempt to lay siege to the VO Chidambaranar Port (formerly called as Tuticorin Port) at Tuticorin in country boats and mechanised vessels. The crucial loading of fuel in the
first reactor has reportedly begun inside the Koodankulam nuclear plant. The protest will be led by activist SP Udayakumar, who announced the agitation plan two days ago after holding a discussion with community leaders of coastal hamlets in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin and Ramanathapuram.
Concerned over the anti-nuclear activists' plan to stall activities at the VOC Port, Shipping Minister GK Vasan appealed to them to give up their proposed stir.
Vasan also urged the Tamil Nadu government to take necessary steps to contain the protest and prevent any impact on the region's import export trade.
